Don't fear the CMMI monster

Lots of shops have "gone process" and "Gone CMMI" (Capability Maturity Measurement Model), and many folks have gone berserk when it happens. Well it happened to us, and it was not the worst thing that could happen. It actually helped in a number of areas.<< MORE >>

SAP realizes they are out in the cold

SAP has all but asked to be taken over, by, as they list, Google, MSFT or IBM. Sounds like they are limiting their thoughts to companies with billions in cash on hand. Well they need to be taken over, even though they are an industry 800lb. gorilla, they know it, and here is why.<< MORE >>

SUN does a reshuffle, what does it mean?

Everyone has heard Schwartz is in as CEO, and I think thats great. Read my entry "Who you gonna bet on" for why I think its great, even though I wrote it before the move was announced. Go out, right now, and buy an MP3 player. Even if, and especially if, you don't listen to music a lot, or already have music in all the places you need in your life. There are very few "new' technologies that really change your life, and audio books will.<< MORE >>

Intel vs AMD chip designs

intel got burned putting a rambus memory controller on thier chips once. And they like using the "transistor budget" for cache, not a memory controller. Oh, and they like making a profit too. So the memory controller gets fabbed on lower grade silicon.<< MORE >>
